Organizational Leadership (BOLD) Minor

The Minor in Organizational Leadership is open to all Virginia Tech students with at least a 2.50 GPA.

Minor electives should be chosen as complements to your major to develop skills in

  1. Creativity and Innovation;
  2. Critical and Strategic Thinking;
  3. Intercultural Communication; and/or
  4. Holistic Thinking and Ethical Reasoning.

The experiential activity may take the form of a campus activity, community activity, or an internship that offers significant leadership experience that is consistent with the goals of the minor. These activities are usually fulfilled through one of the three courses listed below. In certain cases, other courses that are directly related to a leadership activity can be substituted for the experiential activity. All experiential activities must be pre-approved the semester before by the Director of the Business Leadership Center (leadershipcenter@vt.edu).

Notes:

  • Admission decisions will be made as applications are received. Applicants should receive a response, in writing, within two weeks of the decision. An advising meeting with the BLC Director is required before the minor becomes official.
  • Students must complete the minor with at least a 2.0 in the 18 credit hours required by the minor.
  • Course substitution requests must be proposed in writing via the course substitution survey found on the Business Leadership Center’s website (https://pamplin.vt.edu/leadership-center/minor/course-substitution.html)
  • Students may apply major courses to the minor, not to exceed 50% overlap (except COMM/PR/MJ majors)
  • Students should consider Pathways requirements when choosing electives
