BUS 1004 - Foundations of Business Problem-Solving (3 credits)

Part of the BUS 1004-2004-3004-4004 Business Problem-Solving course sequence for all Pamplin students. Includes course-specific business topics, business problem-solving concepts with a project application, and career readiness topics. The BUS 1004 foundations of business topics introduce students to various business functions, helping them understand business operations as well as explore business majors and career interests. The BUS 1004 project application will be a small business venture. BUS 1004 is a First Year Experience course, supporting student transition to Virginia Tech and the Pamplin College of Business.

BUS 1044 - Introduction to Cyber Security for Securitas LLC (1 credit)

This class is an introductory class for students associated with Virginia Tech’s cybersecurity-focused living-learning community. Students develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving and digital literacy, and a broader understanding of risk.

BUS 1054 - Introduction to Data Analytics for Impact LLC (1 credit)

Students in the Impact LLC program meet weekly to explore data analytics topics. Topics include history of and current explorations in the field of data analytics, foundational questions and methods in data analytics, and related majors and career options in data analytics. Pre: Restricted to students enrolled in Impact LLC program.

BUS 1204 - AI Literacy for Business (3 credits)

Introduction to AI in business. Use of generative AI tools for text, image, and data. Prompt design and interaction strategies. Data reliability, bias, and ethical concerns. Applications in human-AI collaboration and decision-making. Protocol development for responsible and effective AI use. Scenario-based testing and refinement of AI protocols, including agentic GPT design.

BUS 2004 - Intermediate Applications of Business Problem-Solving (3 credits)

Part of the BUS 1004–2004–3004–4004 Business Problem-Solving course sequence for all Pamplin students. Includes course-specific business topics, business problem-solving concepts with a project application, and career readiness development. Emphasizes teamwork, professional communication, and career-readiness skills. Introduces tools, concepts, and analytical frameworks to define and analyze strategic problems and identify sources of industry- and firm-level competitive advantage. The project application is a business competition simulation. Students also engage in PRO-folio goal setting and planning to support ongoing professional development.

BUS 3004 - Advanced Applications of Business Problem-Solving (3 credits)

Part of the BUS 1004–2004–3004–4004 Business Problem-Solving course sequence for all Pamplin students. Includes course-specific business topics, business problem-solving concepts with a project application, and career readiness development. Covers strategic management topics, including critical organizational issues, pragmatic management strategies, and integrative tools and frameworks across business disciplines. The project engages student teams with a real client problem from a local community business. Students also explore Pamplin resources and opportunities to support academic, professional, and experiential development.

BUS 3754 - Internship in Business (1 credit)

Through a supervised professional business experience, students engage with business environments, disciplinary roles, and real-world problem-solving applying business analysis and communication tools. Reflective assignments integrate experiential learning with academic concepts, career pathways, and professional skill development.

BUS 3900 - Bridge Experience (0 credits)

Application of academic knowledge and skills to in a work-based experience aligned with post-graduation goals using research-based learning processes. Satisfactory completion of work-based experience often in the form of internship, undergraduate research, co-op, or study abroad; self-evaluation; reflection; and showcase of learning. Pre: Departmental approval of 3900 plan.

BUS 4004 - Capstone in Business Problem-Solving (3 credits)

BUS 4004 is the capstone course in the BUS 1004-2004-3004-4004 Business Problem-Solving course sequence for all Pamplin students. The BUS 4004 project will be a corporate client project in which students will apply problem solving concepts with corporate client projects, working with clients on clear problem definitions and outcome expectations, thorough analysis of the business problem, client and stakeholder needs, market analysis and decision impact. Students will develop, and when possible implement, decision solutions based on a thorough analysis of the business problem, including any available data. As the college capstone course, students will contribute to the project with the disciplinary perspectives they have learned through their major coursework, in addition to applying a comprehensive analysis based on foundational business principles.
